Kid Rock’s Senate Run Officially an ‘If’

Kid Rock has backed off aggressive messaging that suggested he would run for Senate and started a non-profit to get more people to the polls.

The Michigan-raised singer revealed that while he’s exploring his candidacy for U.S. Senate, he’ll also be promoting voter registration. He’s raising money through sales of merchandise associated with his “very possible campaign” and getting people registered to vote at his concerts.

“We will be scheduling a press conference in the next 6 weeks or so to address this issue, and if I decide to throw my hat in the ring for U.S. Senate, believe me … it’s game on mthrfkers,” Kid Rock says.

The Kid Rock for Senate conversation started to get amplified on July 12 when the rap-rock, country singer tweeted a political yard sign with a caption that said his new website was definitely real. Several outlets including Taste of Country suggested it was not a real campaign, as the merchandise link led to a Warner Bros. website. Rock vehemently denied that he was just trying to sell merchandise, adding that he was no longer with Warner and was now with Broken Bow Records and BMG. His most recent note on his website also mentions the sales of T-shirts, with the singer saying, “I can tell you, I have no problem selling Kid Rock shirts and yes, I absolutely will use this media circus to sell/promote whatever I damn well please.”

A Broken Bow / UMG representative would later confirm Kid Rock was on their roster and on July 13 the singer would release two new songs and music videos (for “Po-Dunk” and “Greatest Show On Earth”) as well as announce a 2018 tour.

All of Kid Rock’s messaging thus far has left a crack in the door for him to not run for Senate. He’d be running against Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat.
