The first weekend of May was a rollercoaster for Jake Owen. He was briefly detained on May 5 after his hometown's police force found it suspicious that he was wearing an old man mask at a Steak 'N Shake restaurant. Needless to say, the singer wasn't pleased. “You give a guy a gun and a badge and he thinks he’s John Wayne,” Owen tweeted. “Thanks Indian River County Sheriffs Office. Unreal.” Later, he apologized for his comments. While he wasn't taken into to custody, being handcuffed made for a few embarrassing moments.

Two days later, he was on a beach with his fiancee, pledging his long-lasting love. On May 7, Owen surprised his fans by getting married in Vero Beach, Fla. They were engaged just weeks earlier, so it's possible his Cinco De Mayo fun was part of a bachelor party. The arrest story received much more attention on Taste of Country than the wedding, coming in at No. 6 of the year's top stories.
