Jake Owen Honors Glen Campbell With Beautiful ‘Wichita Lineman’ Cover [Watch]

In the wake of Glen Campbell‘s death on Tuesday (Aug. 8), country stars are sharing heartfelt tributes to show the impact of the legendary star. But Jake Owen may have offered one of the most poignant tributes in a way he knows best: playing music.

Owen took to Facebook after learning the sad news to not only share some poignant words, but to pay homage to Campbell by performing an acoustic rendition of one of his signature songs, “Wichita Lineman.” Owen keeps things simple in his cover, using nothing but his guitar and strong voice to deliver a beautiful performance as he sings the classic lyrics, “I hear you singin’ in the wire, / I can hear you through the whine / And the Wichita lineman is still on the line.”

More Country Singers Pay Tribute to Glen Campbell

“We lost one of the greatest voices, guitar players and entertainer that our world has ever seen. Glen Campbell,” Owen writes alongside the video. “It seems this year has been filled with these moments where we’ve lost people that have enriched our lives with their pure talent. This is a huge loss for country music. Maybe Glen and Merle are picking a tune together right now. If so, I bet my Grandad is right there with a front row ticket. Life is short. Enjoy it while it’s here.”

The “American Country Love Song” singer is one of many stars who’ve honored Campbell’s memory with thoughtful remarks. Keith Urban also turned to Facebook, calling Campbell a “role model” who “blazed real trails.” Dolly PartonBrad PaisleyBlake Shelton and more shared how Campbell impacted their lives, with youngest daughter Ashley Campbell offering a touching photo of her and her father holding hands, writing, “Heartbroken. I owe him everything I am, and everything I ever will be. He will be remembered so well and with so much love.”

Campbell died at the age of 81 after battling Alzheimer’s.
