Jana Kramer may be new to the professional dancing world, but she’s already learning the true meaning of the phrase “the show must go on.” The artist shared on Instagram that she is fighting through an injury sustained on Dancing With the Stars — a sprained muscle in her rib cage.

“It’s very painful, and it’s hard to breathe and move,” Kramer tells People. “My doctor recommended that I do not dance, but I’m going to anyways.”

Her dance partner agrees, the injury is no joke.

“I’m worried because it’s one of the things … you have to be careful. The injury can hold you back,” Gleb Savchenko admits. “There’s a lot of things in the choreography we cannot do.”

The “Circles” singer is preparing a number for next Monday's (Sept. 19) show that pairs a tango with Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Wanna Be,” the theme song for the TV drama One Tree Hill, on which Kramer appeared. Last week she performed a waltz to Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman,” earning 27 points out of a possible 40. Not too shabby for the first time.

Kramer asserts that she’s a “tough cookie” in her Instagram caption, a true description in more ways than one. Not only is she performing stunning dances already in her first weeks and powering through an injury, the artist has been weathering a tough time personally. Being a young working mom to a baby girl and navigating a newly announced divorce from husband Michael Caussin, Kramer certainly has her hands full.

“I’m trying to manage it the best that I can and show single moms out there that we can do it,” she says. “We can do it all, hear us roar.”

See Kramer on Dancing With the Stars on Monday evenings on ABC.
