Jason Aldean gave one of the most rockin' performances at the 2016 ACM Awards, knocking the crowd out with the live debut of his latest single, "Lights Come On."

"We were looking for someone romantic who likes long walks on the beach ... and instead we got Jason Aldean," Luke Bryan said introducing the "Lights Come On" performance.

The whole crowd was brought to their feet to dance along to Aldean's rocking new single as he demanded the stage. Footage of Aldean in concert flashed on the screens behind him, maybe giving us a preview of what his upcoming live shows will be like.

The country superstar dropped the new single without much warning on April 1, giving fans a preview of his upcoming seventh studio album. Debuting it live suits the song perfectly, since its arena-rock-influenced vibe was inspired by the crowds who come to see Aldean in concert, and the lyrics pay tribute to those fans.

“When the lights come on and everybody’s screamin’ / Lighters in the sky, yeah, and everybody’s singing / Every word to every song to the girl they’re takin’ home tonight / When the lights come on and everybody’s feelin’ / A hallelujah high from the floor to the ceiling / Yeah the drink that we’re drinkin’, the smoke that we’re smokin’ / The party we’re throwing’s going all night long when the light come on,” Aldean sings.

“Being on stage is why I do what I do, it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do,” he says. “This song is all about that rush you can only get from stepping on stage and listening to fans sing along to every word. It’s about throwing the biggest party from the floor to the top of the rafters for all those people who spent their paycheck to come see us ... I can’t think of a better place to kick it off than at the ACMs.”
