Jason Aldean and Lionel Richie made an appearance on the ‘Late Show With David Letterman’ Tuesday night (March 27) to bring the audience their duet ‘Say You, Say Me’ from Richie’s new country duets album ‘Tuskegee.’ With Aldean sporting his signature cowboy hat and Richie sporting his signature beaming smile, the two took turns on lead vocals.

Originally written and recorded by Richie for the 1985 film ‘White Nights,’ ‘Say You, Say Me’ is an Oscar-winning tune which hit No.1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 the year the film released. Though the song has enjoyed some interesting parodies over the years — including a rewrite by Richie for Homer Simpson in ‘Hey You, Beer Me’ — the original is a memorable ballad made even more dynamic by the genre-crossing duet.

Before his ‘Letterman’ appearance this week, Aldean stopped by the CBS studio to chat with ‘CBS This Morning,’ where he talked a bit about growing up and what it’s like to be a country artist. The father of two, who used to dream of being a baseball player, says his current career is more than he could have ever dreamed or hoped for. After going to school to pursue baseball, Aldean says four more years of college didn’t sound too appealing to him, so he threw himself into music.

The hosts asked Aldean why country artists are always the nicest, most down-to-earth people. After thinking on the question for a bit, beginning with “I don’t know …,” Aldean came up with a pretty convincing response.

“I think, for the most part, I mean most of us really kind of came up in the business struggling to get to where we are, you know?” the ‘My Kinda Party’ singer explained. “I mean, it’s like any business like this – it’s not easy … Once you finally get an opportunity I guess to do this, you don’t want to take it for granted and do things like that where you start treating people bad. You’re not gonna be around for very long if you start doing things like that.”

Aldean, who is nominated for six ACM Awards, continues to break records by selling out show after show on his My Kinda Party Tour.
