Runaway June's Jennifer Wayne and William Michael Morgan have ended their engagement, and from the looks of a post she made to Instagram, it might not be as mutually amicable as fans initially thought.

The country couple seemed starry-eyed when they announced their engagement on Dec. 28, 2016, and they raved about their romance in subsequent interviews. But Wayne surprised fans on Friday (April 7) when she posted to let fans know that the wedding is off, tweeting, "William and I have called off our engagement. We came to the mutual agreement that this is what’s best for both of us right now," then adding, "Thank you for your support and respecting our privacy during this time."

In a post to Instagram Friday evening, Wayne displayed her left hand without her ring, quoting from Runaway June's hit debut single, "Lipstick," by writing, "If you're gonna love somebody... yeah you better love somebody, who ruins your lipstick, not your mascara."

Fans reacted with supportive comments, with many appearing to take Wayne's side in the split, although she has provided no reasons for the breakup.

Morgan has not commented on his split with Wayne other than to echo her initial post on Facebook, writing, "Jennifer and I have called off our engagement. We came to the mutual agreement that this is what’s best for both of us right now. Thank you for your support and respecting our privacy during this time."

The 23-year-old traditional country singer scored a hit straight out of the gate with his debut single “I Met a Girl,” which reached No. 1 in 2016. He released his debut album, Vinyl, later in the year, and his sophomore single, “Missing,” is currently at country radio. Morgan has a daughter from a previous relationship, Presley, who was born in March of 2016.

Lipstick,” has made big inroads at country radio for Runaway June, and Taste of Country picked the feisty trio as one of our RISERS for 2017. Wayne was previously best-known to country fans as a songwriter who collaborated with Eric Paslay on his hit, “She Don’t Love You.” She’s also the granddaughter of legendary actor John Wayne, and prior to launching her songwriting career in Nashville, she was a tennis pro and competed on television's The Amazing Race.
