It's been just over two months since country hitmaker Jewel welcomed her first child, a boy named Kase Townes, with husband Ty Murray. Finally, the couple are ready to introduce their "mellow and chill” new addition to the rest of us with the first set of public pictures, courtesy of PEOPLE.

Kase, now 9-weeks-old, entered the world somewhat unexpectedly on July 11, through an emergency C-section. Jewel recalls, "They always say, ‘Make a plan and God laughs,’ right?"

The singer, who studies hypnobirthing, was eager to have a natural birth, but things didn't work out as planned. When Jewel started having early Braxton Hicks contractions, Kase's heart rate dropped. She admits, "I feel lucky to be pregnant in the modern age where they could actually tell he wasn’t well during those contractions."

In the end, Jewel says her scheduled birth plan wasn't what was important to the young family. "We felt thankful that we had good doctors and a good hospital nearby, and that everything was OK," she says. "I’m so lucky that we have a healthy baby boy. That’s all I cared about."

Now with baby, the three are enjoying life on their ranch in Stephenville, Texas -- a much different lifestyle than many country music stars are used to. Murray is a fifth-generation cowboy, so he can't wait to teach his son to tend cattle and bull ride, just like he learned. But even if Kase doesn't want to become a rancher, his dad says that's okay. "Jewel and I have to remember he is his own little person, and it’s all for him to figure out. Our job is to enjoy what his little journey is, not fret over it."

Jewel and Ty Murray are learning each day, and the singer even spilled that neither she nor her husband have any desire to hire a nanny. Murray especially wants to make his relationship with Kase special, and plans to spend as much time with him as possible. When asked about his first son's birth, he commented, "I felt like somebody went to a cabinet, pulled out a perfect baby and handed him over. It’s overwhelming."
