Months after having open heart surgery, Jo Dee Messina's mother, Mary, is back in the hospital. The singer has kept fans up to date on her mom's condition since April, when she was first admitted. It's been a long emotional journey for the family.

"Another trip to the ER," Messina wrote on Facebook late Thursday night (July 11). "We were at special care facility. Now back in hospital. Mom has pneumonia. 3 mos 2day since surgery."

Messina reported the heart surgery on April 24. “I told [the surgeon] to realize, ‘When you’re in there and have my mother’s heart in your hands, you will have my heart in your hands too,'" she wrote at the time.

The 42-year-old and her siblings have been by Mary's side almost every moment as she recovered from the surgery -- Messina even postponed a run of Canadian tour dates. Over the last month she's been in better spirits, eagerly promoting a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a new album. She raised over $100,000 in 30 days.
