The auditions during tonight's episode of 'American Idol' took place in Austin, Texas and yielded a true cowboy in John Wayne Schulz. Yes, that's his real name, and this 'Duke' works on a ranch as a real deal cowboy.

He auditioned for 'Idol' to fulfill a promise to his mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. She suggested Schulz try out, and in her interview with the cameras, she said her son is "so genuine, the kindest person you could ever meet … and he loves his mama."

When Schulz, with his black 10-gallon hat, sang Brooks and Dunn's 'Believe,' judge Jennifer Lopez said that the way he hit the note on one of his "believes" nearly made her cry. J Lo's tears are a critical element of moving forward in the competition. Needless to say, Schulz is going to Hollywood.
