Josh Thompson's made a lot of changes lately. From releasing brand new music to cutting off his ponytail -- 2014 is a year of big things for the singer.

Thompson's fans have known him for those long, luxurious locks for years but that all changed when he took a recent trip to the hair stylist. Thompson went for a change and cut it all off and he's broken a few hearts with the cut. So who misses that hair more?

"The fans definitely," he tells Taste of Country. That's not the only person who's missing it though. "My bass player was a little heartbroken."

Thompson's music is also making this year a big one for him. He just released his newest single, 'Wanted Me Gone,' which is the second single from his album, 'Turn It Up,' which dropped in April. The 10-track album was penned mostly by the singer. He wrote nine of its tracks. Thompson has also written songs for Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley and Gary Allan and he says the songwriting process "always changes."

The album's first single, 'Cold Beer With Your Name On It,' was the only song on the album that the singer didn't have a hand in writing but he knew it was special from the start. "Just like you said, it's infectious," he tells ToC saying he knew he wanted to cut it from the moment he heard it.

It's safe to say the 'Wanted Me Gone' singer is happy with the album in its entirety. It's his very first release on Show Dog-Universal but it's his follow-up to 'Way Out Here,' his 2010 album. He's so happy with the record that he can't pick just one favorite. Speaking prior to his set for the 2014 Music City Gives Back event during CMA Fest, he said "I think I've quoted three different favorites now." If he had to pick just one, for that moment, the winner was 'A Little Memory.'
