Noted bluegrass singer-guitarist Julia Mainer has passed away.

According to Bluegrass Today, Mainer died on Wednesday (Jan. 21), several days after being injured in a fall. She was 95 years old.

Born March 13, 1919, she married bluegrass pioneer Wade Mainer in 1937. Julia was already a singer and guitarist in her own right, known as Hillbilly Lilly. She performed on WSJS Radio in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 1935-1937, and when the couple married, they also joined up musically. Julia sang harmony and played guitar at her husband's concerts in addition to her solo work, which focused largely on gospel music.

The couple settled in Flint, Mich. and had five children. After Wade Mainer retired in 1973, they still performed at bluegrass festivals, playing mostly mountain gospel music. They received a Michigan Heritage award in 1996. Wade passed away in 2011 at the age of 104.
