Justin Timberlake's music has gone from virtually all pop with boyband 'N Sync to his own eclectic sound as a solo artist. But the entertainer will be the first to admit that he has a great love for one genre in particular -- country!

In Timberlake's mind, his sound is simply American.

"I just did an interview earlier today and I said ‘I’m American, that’s what I am.’ In all senses of the word," the singer tells Storme Warren on Sirius XM during 'The Highway Hot 30 Live.'

"Grew up outside of Memphis, Tennessee. Listened to country music, R&B music, classic rock, you know, everything," Timberlake adds. "You know what I love about Nashville too, you don’t have to have an official single to have a single. That’s my favorite part about the scene in Nashville."

The Memphis native's new single, 'Drink You Away,' from his album '20/20 Experience Part 2' even has a hint of a country sound -- especially in the lyrics.

"It's a country song to me," Timberlake revealed right before Warren took a moment to play the song on country radio. "Mama, I made it. I'm on the Highway."

The 'Mirrors' singer even went as far as to say that having his song played on the country station was the coolest thing that had happened to him all year, but that may change after the American Music Awards on Nov. 24. He is nominated for Artist of the Year, Favorite Soul, R&B Male Artist and Album, and Favorite Pop / Rock Male Artist and Album.

That's not enough for Timberlake, though. "I still got my eyes set on a Best Country Album, there is time for that," he says, only partially joking.

Clearly, the pop icon's dreams of being a country star are still very much alive. Who knows? Maybe one day we'll see his name on the nominations list for the CMA Awards!
