Kacey Musgraves recently released her first-ever Christmas album, A Very Kacey Christmas, and the singer shares with Taste of Country Nights what it was really like recording a holiday-themed album in the middle of summer.

"I started working on the album in May and then we recorded in June and July. It was kind of bizarre," she admits. "I was sweating while making a Christmas album. In the studio, every musician had their own stocking, we had cider, we had lights everywhere. It was very festive ... I really put a lot of heart into this. We did our best to not go in and copy all these traditional versions you're familiar with. We borrowed inspiration and made them our own."

In support of her holiday album, Musgraves will hit the road for nine Christmas shows. While she admits she wishes she could do more than this handful, nine was all she could fit into her already busy schedule, which includes a stint opening for George Strait in Las Vegas. She says being on the road with King George has been "a huge honor."

"Obviously I'm from Texas so it's a Texan's dream to be playing a show with the King," she gushes. "He's still got it. He looks amazing, I think he sounds even better. It's hit after hit after hit. It brings back all these memories, all these songs that you remember. It's a really good time. I'm so thankful he asked me to be out there. It's country. I love country music."
