Keith Urban’s ‘Fuse’ Debuts at No. 1

Keith Urban‘s newest album ‘Fuse‘ debuted at No. 1 on Billboard after its release on Sept. 10, but it wasn’t without a battle to get to the top.

Although Urban is well-loved and deeply respected in the country music community, he just barely edged out the Weeknd’s newly arriving record ‘Kiss Land.’ In fact, Billboard reveals that less than 3,000 copies separate the two albums, with rounded figures of 98,000 and 95,000, respectively, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It was a fight to the finish for Urban, but he ended up at No. 1 with his fifth Top 10 album. ‘Fuse’ is his second No. 1 after 2009’s ‘Defying Gravity,’ which boasted 172,000 copies and went head to head with Prince’s ‘Lotus Flow3r/MPLSOUND/Elix3r.’ His 2010 ‘Get Closer’ album debuted and peaked at No. 7 with a 162,000 start.

Although ‘Fuse’ marks the country star’s lowest sales start for an album since ‘Golden Road’ in 2002, it’s common knowledge that all record sales have dipped over the past years. Plus, ‘Fuse’ has some exciting collaborations with fellow country hitmakers Eric Church and Miranda Lambert, which is something for the singer be proud of.

Urban is on his long cross-country Light the Fuse Tour, which recently announced its third and final leg.
