Keith Urban shook things up at the 2015 CMT Music Awards, premiering on television for the first time his brand-new song "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16" and playing bass instead of his trademark wailing guitar. Oh, and he was sporting a new 'do!

The band played in an enclosed box, glowing red for a cool modern effect as they brought the laid-back, breezy song to life. Urban nailed the funky bass line and brought a new flare to his signature style. The audience ate up the lyrics to what we've dubbed "John x3" as wife Nicole Kidman, looking stunning, sang along with every word.

The new album does not yet have a release date. Urban was nominated for Male Video of the Year at the CMT Awards this year for his hit "Somewhere in My Car," but lost to Jason Aldean. This weekend, Urban will deliver an equally rocking, but longer performance as a headliner at the 2015 Taste of Country Music Festival. Then, he's off to Colorado next weekend for Country Jam. Taste of Country will be onsite at both.
