Keith Urban‘s ‘You Gonna Fly’ is in its second week atop the country singles chart. The tune, which was penned by the LoCash Cowboys, as well as country rocker Jaren Johnston, topped both Billboard and Mediabase last week after only 19 weeks on the chart. This week, it spends its second consecutive week at No. 1 on both charts. The victory marks the first time in years that a country song — and Urban — have held down the No. 1 position for multiple weeks on all charts.

For the LoCash Cowboys, having a Keith Urban cut and their first No. 1 as songwriters are two very big dreams come true. “Just to have Keith hear our song, like our song, record our song, take it to No. 1 and then two weeks in a row… I have now been dancing for a week straight and can’t stop doing the ‘You Gonna Fly’ shuffle,” Chris Lucas tells Taste of Country with a laugh. “Rock on, KU…Can’t thank you enough!”

“When I found out Keith Urban recorded the song we wrote and put it on his album, I went out and bought the car I always wanted and named it FLY,” Preston Brust adds. “I put the ‘You Gonna Fly’ song in the CD player and played it every day for good luck, hoping Keith would make it a single. Keith made the dream a reality when he released ‘Fly’ as his fourth single. I continued to rock it as it climbed the charts every week in hopes it would go to the top. You just can’t imagine how excited I was, how fast I drove and how loud I cranked it the day it went No. 1!”

When Urban came across the tune, which was originally written for the likelihood of making either the LoCash Cowboys’ forthcoming album or Johnston’s record at the time, he knew it was a hit and was honored to record the song for his ‘Get Closer’ album.

“The guys in LoCash Cowboys I think were going to record it and release it as a single,” Urban recently told Lon Helton on his Country Countdown USA radio program. “So they had this terrible dilemma of ‘Do we give it to Keith? Do we keep it for us? We really need this as a single … what do we do?’ I’m so grateful that they trusted me [with it].”
