In today’s world, social media can be a blessing or a curse — especially for celebrities like Kellie Pickler.

The artist recently launched a new reality show on CMT titled I Love Kellie Pickler, which follows her and her husband Kyle Jacobs in their everyday life. Inviting viewers so intimately into your life opens you up to a whole new level of potential criticism, and Pickler shared with Entertainment Tonight how she deals with life in the spotlight.

“We should all be very mindful of what we expose ourselves to,” she advises. “So you have to protect your heart, you have to protect your head, you’ve got to protect yourself. I stay away from the gossipy stuff and all that."

But there are a few people who she does welcome feedback from.

“I take pride in the company I keep, and they let me know when everything’s good,” she says with a laugh.

The singer is also getting ready to appear on the farewell season of American Idol, which gave Pickler her start in 2006. The show is expected to bring back past winners and alumni for the final episodes.

“It’s a little bittersweet,” she says. "American Idol...completely changed television forever. It will be wonderful to see everyone. It’ll be like an Idol family reunion!"

Pickler recently released a new Christmas single titled “My Christmas Caroline,” a tribute to her home state of North Carolina and the family she has there. The artist wrote the song along with her husband, and it’s now available for purchase on iTunes.
