Kelly Clarkson has her share of adorable moments floating around the Internet, but probably at least in her Top Three (okay, maybe two?) has to be her latest, in which she flips out during a red-carpet interview at the realization that none other than the iconic Cher is in her radar.

Clarkson was doing the carpet rounds at the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday (Dec. 2) in Washington, D.C., when she stopped to give an interview to Extra. Things took a bit of a turn when the singer recognized another famous voice in the near vicinity.

"I hear Cher behind me right now," Clarkson says, in that can't-fake-it shaky tone of voice suggesting she's really, actually freaking out. "She's right behind me right now. I can't even talk about it. I've never met her."

Cher indeed is behind Clarkson, oblivious to the fact that she is being discussed in near-hysterical (if hushed) terms just a few feet away. "We're fine. I'm totally fine," Clarkson assures her interviewer.

Making it even funnier is the fact that Clarkson clarifies that she is there to support Reba McEntire, her husband's former stepmother, who was being honored that night. But Reba is apparently small potatoes compared to Cher. "I'm related to Reba," she says, with a dismissive wave. "But I've never met Cher!"

Clarkson does eventually meet Cher head-on, offering up the blunt statement "I've been talking about you the whole time!" Cher, to her credit, handled the adorably awkward encounter with grace, and a hug.

Clarkson, meanwhile, makes things even funnier (yes!) by noting several times that she was "sweating like a pig" over the whole encounter. It's OK, Kelly, we feel the same way as you do!

For those worried about Clarkson disrespecting her stepmother-in-law, there's no need to be concerned. Clarkson performed McEntire's "Fancy" at the gala, and offered a few deeply personal words about their relationship.

"Thank you so much, Reba for listening to me vent as an artist," she said (quote via USA Today). "Thank you so much for comforting me on the phone through my tears like a friend and thank you for being a really rad grandma for my kids."
