Kelsea Ballerini took the stage at the Billboard Women in Music event in New York City to perform her runaway hit single, "Love Me Like You Mean It."

The 22-year-old rising star shot to virtual overnight stardom with the release of the song, which peaked at No. 1 on Billlboard's Country Airplay chart in July. She performed a stripped-down version at the ceremony, backed only by two acoustic guitars and light percussion, bringing her impressive vocal performance right out front.

Ballerini was on hand to accept the Rising Star award at the event. She was introduced by her friend and mentor, Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott.

“Before I was a songwriter, and before I was an artist, I was a fan,” Ballerini told the crowd (quote via the Boot). “I stood in like to meet Hillary, and I stood in line to meet Taylor Swift, and I remember going to Wal-mart to buy [Lady Gaga‘s] Born This Way record, and I remember saving up to go see Demi Lovato in Nashville.

“I learned by watching strong, empowering, bold women how to become one,” she added. "I’m so proud to be a part of this event representing women in music. I’m a fan of everyone in this room.”

Ballerini was recently named Taste of Country's Artist of the Year for 2015.

Loretta Lynn was also honored with the Legend Award at the 10th annual event, which took place Dec. 11 and aired on Lifetime on Dec. 18.  Lady Gaga, Selena GomezLana Del Ray, Alabama Shakes‘ Brittany Howard and Demi Lovato were among the other performers and honorees.
