Kenny Rogers Postpones Tulsa Concert … Again
Kenny Rogers fans in Tulsa are going to have to wait a little bit longer to say goodbye to the legendary country singer. The 77-year-old singer has postponed his upcoming Tulsa farewell show for the second time due to unspecified health issues.
The legendary singer announced his Kenny Rogers' Final World Tour: The Gambler's Last Deal trek in September of 2015 during an appearance on The Today Show, saying, "It's happily sad or sadly happy. I'm going to do a big worldwide tour, and it's going to be my last. I'm going to say goodbye at that point; I've done this long enough."
Rogers wants to spend more time with his wife and their twin sons, who are 11 years old.
“I wrote in my book that there’s a fine line between being driven and being selfish, and I think I crossed that line when I was younger,” he explains. “And I really want to be there with my kids and my wife. They’re really very important to me, and I don’t see enough of them.”
The country icon was originally slated to perform at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Jan. 28, according to Tulsa World, but was forced to re-schedule due to his health. The re-scheduled date was slated for April 7, but Rogers has now moved the date to July 14. Linda Davis will join Rogers for that show, and tickets for the April gig will be honored at the new date. Ticketholders who are unable to attend the new date are eligible for a refund.
Rogers has not given any details of his health struggles, but during his Today appearance he acknowledged that simply getting through a performance is becoming more and more physically challenging.
"I swore that I would do this until I embarrassed myself,” he says with a laugh. “I don’t walk around well, so I’ve found some new humor. My mobility is really driving me crazy.”
The Country Music Hall of Famer intends to make one last live appearance after his tour wraps, giving the final performance of his five-decade career on The Today Show.
