A gun control debate in the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in American history has begun, and at least one country musician is flipping his stance on the Second Amendment after being directly involved with the Las Vegas shooting.

Caleb Keeter, guitarist for the Josh Abbott Band, told his followers on Twitter that he now realizes how wrong he was about being a staunch gun rights advocate. The legal firearms the Josh Abbott Band typically travel with on their bus were useless on Sunday night (Oct. 1) when a man fired on a crowd of country music fans, Keeter writes, because "We couldn't touch them for fear police might think that we were part of the massacre and shoot us."

Calling the amount of firepower gunman Stephen Paddock had access to "insane," Keeter admits he wasn't sure he'd live through the night. "These rounds were powerful enough that my crew guys just standing in a close proximity of a victim shot by this f---ing coward received shrapnel wounds," he writes.

"We need gun control RIGHT. NOW."

Fifty-eight people were killed and more than 500 injured when gunfire showered the crowd watching Jason Aldean's headlining set at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. The gunman was on the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay Casino, firing at 22,000 people from above. For more than four minutes he unloaded hundreds of rounds of bullets before SWAT teams found him. At that point, the 64-year-old took his own life.

Jake Owen, Chris Young and more were on hand for the festival. Owen was side-stage and describes hearing gunfire hit the stage rigging.
