Ella Mae Bowen's journey began at home, with family urging her to to share her voice with the world. In this photo gallery provided by Bowen, September's #LetTheGirlsPlay artist, the songwriter walks you through her story in her own words.

You'll meet her grandfather, parents and brother and literally learn about her fears and great comforts. Unlike previous artists featured in this space, Bowen's dream is to become a Grammy-winning songwriter. She doesn't necessarily look at the world's biggest stages and imagine herself captivating crowds at the microphone. She sees a blank sheet of paper as a chance to create great art.

That's just what she's done since moving to Nashville at as a teen. Songs from her self-titled EP showcase her songwriting, but the also prove she's a better vocalist than she thinks. "His Name Was Sam" and "This Is What It Feels Like" are two fine examples. A third is the song she cut exclusively for Taste of Country during a recent Song Suffragettes performance at the Listening Room in Nashville. Watch it below.
