A radio contest led to Kasey Tyndall's move to Nashville, or so the story goes. In reality the eastern North Carolina native had been practicing and preparing for years. She just didn't think she was good enough until Keith Urban called her name.

Most of the photos taken for this photo gallery came after her duet with Urban in 2014. The two sang "We Were Us" in Raleigh, N.C. — Tyndall had been hand-selected by the singer to sing Miranda Lambert's part of the duet, and when she was done her phone started blowing up. A management deal, a booking agent, local promoters ... all came post-Urban.

Then one day last June she picked up her things and left for Nashville.

Tyndall's journey hasn't always been easy. There truly is no such thing as an overnight success story in Music City, so she's been busy taking the steps necessary to build relationships with writers in town. Over the last several months she's been seen frequently at the Song Suffragettes #LetTheGirlsPlay rounds at the Listening Room. This group has become her people, friends and fellow songwriters she can relate to and work with.

Listen to Tyndall's acoustic version of the assertive "Babydoll" as you flip through photos from the first 19 years of her life. She says she's working hard on a new album, and expects to be able to show off new music in the summer. April's #LetTheGirlsPlay artist of the month has found her voice and the confidence she needs to get heard in Music City and beyond. As is the case with all talented females, ToC is happy to share her story.
