Lisa Marie Presley to Make Grand Ole Opry Debut

On August 21, Lisa Marie Presley will follow in the footsteps of her father, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, by performing on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. In addition to her other popular tunes, Presley will be playing a sampling of tracks from her third album, ‘Storm & Grace,’ which is an Americana record produced by T. Bone Burnett.

Presley isn’t the first non-country artist to take the Grand Ole Opry stage. From time to time, the Opry takes on non-country performers, including several U.S. Presidents, rock stars, Academy Award and Emmy winners and other famous American figures. Just last month, late pop legend Barry Gibb had his own Opry debut.

The performance by the King’s daughter is doubly historical due to the fact that her father played the Grand Ole Opry only once, back on October 2, 1954.

Presley’s most recent album has helped her break into the Americana genre. It is the singer’s first work that has been widely accepted by the Americana roots community and that’s a good place for her to be.

“In the past, I was terrified,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “On this record, I was starting from zero. But I soon realized I was going to be OK. I found a proper bed for my voice and songwriting to lie in.”

Presley will no doubt take her newfound confidence and inherited musical talents to the Grand Ole Opry in just a few weeks. It will be a historical night to remember, for sure.
