The Producer

For The Breaker, Little Big Town returned to producer Jay Joyce, who also produced their 2014 smash effort, Pain Killer. For those who've forgotten, that album yielded the ubiquitous and somewhat controversial crossover hit "Girl Crush."

Joyce has also written songs for Little Big Town in the past (as well as other artists) and has tattooed his name to production work on Eric Church's Mr. Misunderstood and Pawn Shop by the Brothers Osborne.

The Single

Little Big Town released The Breaker's first single, "Better Man," in October 2016. A few weeks later, fans became even more intrigued when Little Big Town revealed the song was written by country-gone-pop superstar Taylor Swift. LBT singer Karen Fairchild made the announcement in November 2016 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

“Some of you have been asking and we told you that there was a young girl in Nashville that wrote it by herself, and it’s Taylor Swift,” Fairchild shares. “She sent us this song and it was one that was really special to her, and she thought of us because of the harmonies. She’s never pitched the song to anyone before, and the moment that we heard it we were like, ‘Man, that is a song that we’re going to cut.'”

"Better Man" currently has more than 10 million plays on Spotify and may send additional artists knocking on Swift's door for hit singles.

The Songs

Besides "Better Man," no other songs from The Breaker have been released. However, Little Big Town mentioned The Breaker's title track was written by Connie Harrington and TJ Osborne of Brothers Osborne.

The group also hinted the rest of the album is more country infused than its 2016 pop effort Wanderlust. Nonetheless, the group notes the album explores new corners of its music, so don't expect it to sound too traditional.

“Every record has a life of its own, a personality of its own. And this one really has its own personality, too,” Phillip Sweet says. “I think we went in this time with even more confidence and an idea to push ourselves even further. I feel like the music has a feeling of, it feels good. There’s a lot of feel-good stuff on this record.”

The Tour

Though Little Big Town haven't announced plans for a nationwide tour in 2017, they will be performing a six-show residency at Ryman Auditorium beginning Feb. 24 — the same day The Breaker is released. The Little Big Town at the Mother Church residency will last through September.
