Loretta Lynn's autobiographical hit from 1970 was turned into a book and later a movie of the same name. Unlike rap music, it's rare an autobiographical song becomes a hit in country music. But 'Coal Miner's Daughter' is without a doubt one of the most well-known hits of all time, an easy choice for the single song from this legend's catalog on the Top 100 Country Songs list.

'Coal Miner's Daughter' topped the charts for only one week in 1970, and its climb was slow. The legacy of this song is perhaps greater than all but a few songs ahead of it, however. Perhaps all that holds Lynn's song back is that it's difficult to hear it on country radio today. One wonders if the next generation will be lucky enough to know this influential masterpiece.
