It's no secret that the country music community is like one big family, and Luke Bryan has some kind words to say about one of its newest additions, Gwen Stefani.

Blake Shelton surprised the audience during his performance at Bryan's Crash My Playa event in Riviera Maya, Mexico on Jan. 21 when he brought his pop superstar girlfriend up onstage to help him sing his 2011 cover of the classic song, "Footloose."

Despite the difference in their backgrounds, Bryan says Stefani is right at ease with Shelton's country friends. “I think Gwen enjoys learning a little bit more about us country people!” Bryan tells People. “But she totally fits in and has a blast.”

2017 marks the third year for Bryan's Crash My Playa show in Mexico, bringing acts including Little Big Town, Brothers Osborne, Old DominionDustin Lynch and Shelton along for the ride. In between entertaining fans, the stars can look forward to relaxing on the beach, with Bryan saying the event gives them the opportunity for “total vacationing and chilling out.”

Shelton and Stefani took advantage of that down time. People reports the couple were there as much for the sun and the surf as for the concert event.

“They’re excited to be on vacation and we’re happy they have the ability to enjoy themselves,” Bryan says.

Shelton rocked the country world when he made and Stefani made their official debut as a couple at the 2015 CMA Awards, and they have been going strong ever since. The two met when they were coaches on The Voice together in Season 7. They'll reunite on the coaching panel when Season 12 debuts in February, when Bryan also comes on board as a mentor to Shelton's team.
