There's never been a better time for women in country music to own the stage, with all kinds of talented female singers and songwriters popping up, and even girl groups making a splash, hoping for waves. Kelsea Ballerini and Maddie & Tae are just three of the young and fresh female artists making waves in the biz, and though they're not truly a trio, it's reminiscent of their predecessors, the Dixie Chicks.

... Especially since the three teamed up at CMT’s aptly named Next Women of Country show during Ballerini’s set and paid tribute to the Chicks by breaking out an old hit, "There’s Your Trouble." With Maddie & Tae on guitar and mandolin and Ballerini on lead vocals, the trio’s performance was a raw, refreshing take on the throwback tune. It’s easy to tell they are fans of the original and had fun doing it.

Maddie took a verse with Tae handling background vocals, and all three blended harmonies seamlessly as the audience ate up the nostalgic performance.

Ballerini released her single "Love Me Like You Mean It" in September 2014, and it reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot Country Charts — an impressive peak for a new artist. She is set to release her first full-length album, titled The First Time, May 19.
