Martina McBride's 1994 hit 'Independence Day' won two CMA Awards and was nominated for a few Grammys and an ACM Award, yet it only reached No. 12 on the music charts. As much as any other song, this hit proves it takes more than just Billboard status to be considered for the Top 100 Country Songs list.

Much like 'Have You Forgotten' for Darryl Worley (Song No. 76), McBride's anthem packed a social punch rarely allowed on the radio. It was a song that helped -- and still helps -- many women get out of abusive situations. Almost 20 years later, 'Independence Day' is enjoyed by country music fans at concerts and on their favorite stations.
