Michael Ray's perspective in his new single "Get to You" is uniquely tender and honest. There's no one-word category to lump the mid-tempo track into. It's very understanding.

"Get to You" is the first single from Ray's second studio album, and he admits to Taste of Country that it's very different vocally. But it's the song's message that will grab fans.

"We all in our lives have had something change us, and whether you know what it is or not, a lot of times that's what stops you from giving your all to another person," Ray tells Wendy Lynn from Country 106.5 WYRK in Buffalo, N.Y., a Taste of Country radio station. "You've got a little bit of a wall built. You've got something that's stopping you from loving wholeheartedly."

It's the next part of the song that stands out. The Floridian urges this woman to love again, even it it's not with him.

"Hopefully you'll get through it," he says, "and hopefully it's with me but if it's not with me then hopefully the person you fall in love with you fall (whole)hearted."

"Why do you run away, run away from love / What the hell are you so scared of / You walk away when you've had enough of trying, of trying / Girl there's always gonna be some pain / A little sunshine a little rain / It doesn't mean it ain't worth it / I'm trying, I'm trying to get to you," he sings at the chorus.

The song is Ray's fourth single on Warner and the followup to "Think a Little Less." Previously he'd notched a No. 1 hit with "Kiss You in the Morning" and a Top 20 hit with "Real Men Love Jesus." His self-titled debut album was released in 2015.

Ray played Taste of Country Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. last weekend, debuting the new song for a sold-out crowd. Taste of Country and WYRK were on hand to capture experience it, and to talk to the 29-year-old singer.
