Things got "Complicated" between Miranda Lambert and her tourmate, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, at a recent gig in Canada.

Johnson is currently on the road with Lambert as one of her backing vocalists, but she also has a career of her own, which included taking "Complicated" into the Top 10 in 2001. Johnson is from Canada, and at Lambert's tour stop at Dauphin’s Countryfest in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada on June 28, the star gave the fans a special treat, introducing Johnson by saying, “She’s one of my biggest heroes and influences. So I thought we’d sing a couple [songs] together. From Alberta, Miss Carolyn Dawn Johnson!”

“I’m super-honored to be singing with you,” Johnson told Lambert before asking the audience, “Isn’t Miranda amazing?”

Lambert introduced "Complicated," which was one of several songs the two performed together. “This is one of my most favorite songs that [Johnson] does, so I asked if we could do it for y’all tonight," she told the fans. The pair turned in a simple, no-frills performance, blending their voices seamlessly while Johnson accompanied them on acoustic guitar.

Lambert has been one of the most important advocates for her fellow female artists in recent years, taking them on tour and helping to promote them in many different ways. She weighed in forcefully in May, when a radio consultant commented that the best way to attract higher ratings at country radio is to "take women out" of rotation.

“This is the biggest bunch of BULL---T I have ever heard,” she responded via social media. “I am gonna do everything in my power to support and promote female singer/songwriters in country music. Always.”
