As if seeing Little Big Town at the Ryman wasn’t exciting enough, the crowd at Saturday’s show (July 29) got a special treat when Miranda Lambert came out and surprised them with two performances.

Lambert’s presence brought fans instantly to their feet, filling the venue with deafening applause before she and LBT performed a poignant rendition of her track “Dear Old Sun,” off her 2016 album The Weight of These Wings. But the fun didn’t stop there. Charlie Worsham also came out as a special guest to play banjo as Lambert and the ACM Award-winning foursome took on the Dixie Chicks‘ fiery “Goodbye Earl.”

Miranda Lambert + More Singers Keeping Traditional Country Music Alive

The classic country track is the perfect fit for Lambert’s voice, and she brought out all of the country twang required to deliver the number. The audience can be heard singing along as the superstar acts nail the attitude-filled classic. Karen Fairchild revealed during the show that they had texted back and forth with Lambert to figure out which song they should all sing together in the historic venue, and the Dixie Chicks anthem was just the right choice. Later in the evening, opener RaeLynn joined the band to perform her emotional single “Love Triangle.”

Lambert’s surprise performance came as part of LBT’s 2017 residency at the Ryman, Little Big Town at the Mother Church. The gig launched in February and continues through November. In addition to RaeLynn, other opening acts include Lucie Silvas, “Humble and Kind” songwriter Lori McKenna and Ashley Monroe. The group serves as the first act to have a residency at the Ryman. Their seventh studio album, The Breaker, was released in February of 2017, reaching the top spot on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and cracking the Top 5 on the Billboard 200.
