When Nashville returns to the airwaves in January, there will be a number of new faces in addition to the longtime stars of the show.

The show's new network, CMT, has announced that Joseph David-Jones and Cameron Scoggins will join the cast as recurring characters for the upcoming fifth season of Nashville, which is set to debut on Jan. 5 in 2017.

Deadline reports that David-Jones will play the role of Clay — a charming, mercurial young musician whose "musical style is eclectic, with modern elements but also nods to African-American roots music, bluegrass and even classic country." He won the role on Nashville after a nationwide casting call that included auditions in New York, Los Angeles and Nashville. David-Jones is also a new cast member on the CW’s Legends of Tomorrow and recently appeared in Allegiant, the third film in the Divergent trilogy.

Scoggins is slated to play Zach Welles, a Rayna Jaymes superfan and Silicon Valley tech billionaire. He will present Jaymes with an exciting proposal that could lead to dangerous results. Scoggins has previously appeared on The Blacklist, Elementary and The Good Wife, and is also slated to appear on NBC’s Shades of Blue.

Nashville's fifth season will also include Bridgit Mendler, who will play Ashley Wilkenson, CMT reports, “a young and beautiful YouTube sensation who is about to record her first album.” The character is “self-assured, stubborn and extremely talented, but behind her tough exterior is a well of vulnerability.”

Series regulars Will Chase and Aubrey Peebles will not return for Season 5, and several other characters have been written in, including transgender actor Jen Richards, whose casting marks the first transgender actor on the network. Carolina Chocolate Drops founder Rhiannon Giddens is also joining Nashville.

Nashville's Season 5 will premiere with a two-hour episode on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 9PM ET.
