It’s difficult to keep up with Olivia Lane’s “You Part 2,” but for many it will be worth the ride. The funky, rhythmic “over you” song finds the singer spitting lyrics at a Sam Hunt-ian pace. She has a lot to say and less than three minutes to say it.

For the radio version of the single, Lane drops a rap that fans can find in the lyric video (see below). Her cadence leaves little space for a breath if you’re trying to sing along. After the banjo-driven introduction, it’s all Lane.

“You know I never liked going to a sequel / Somehow the second one never is equal to the first one / Same, lame, heard-‘em-all-before lines / Put ‘em on repeat-peat one more time / I know a bad rerun when I see one,” she sings while a jazzy guitar prances around her.

Her voice isn’t quite comparable to anyone active today. It’s deeper than fellow pop-country stars like Kelsea Ballerini, but still light and nimble. One wouldn’t blame her if she struggled to sing her chorus:

"Like you coming around saying / Hey, girl what do you say / Wanna do a do-over I swear I’ve changed / You only want a toy, for you to enjoy / But you ain’t nothing but a basic boy / No way, no how / Let me make it crystal right now / I got a brand new, know myself attitude / And I don’t need another ‘nother you part 2.”

During the second verse one learns more about this relationship, how it went wrong and what's scarred the song’s central figure (Lane). It's a fresh take on a popular country theme and a good introduction to this singer.

Why Fans Will Love It: It's a funky, pop-country melody with a truly unique arrangement.

Key Lyrics: "No way, no how / Let me make it crystal right now / I got a brand new, know myself attitude / And I don’t need another ‘nother you part 2.”

Did You Know?: Lane is from Texas but convinced her parents to let her move to L.A. at 16 years old. After college, she moved to Music City.
