Phil Vassar is back on the country music radar with his new single, 'Let's Get Together,' which is the first release from his forthcoming full-length album on his new independent label, Rodeowave Entertainment. The project is still in the beginning stages of being complete and will mark the second album released on his own label since parting ways with Universal South in 2010, as Vassar has already released a live album with his new label.

Vassar's next album still is yet to be titled, but that's quite all right with the singer, as he is able to work on his own deadline for the first time in his decade-long career.

"I’ve cut 12 songs for the new album, but we just don’t know exactly when we want to put it out yet," Vassar tells Taste of Country. "It’s really different. I’ve got a lot of different things on this one. I’m excited about that, just because it has a lot of different flavors. It’s been nice just having the opportunity to take my time to do this thing. The single’s out now, and I’ve been recording stuff. A lot of the usual suspects are on this thing. Tom Douglas and I have written some things on here, Charlie Black … I’m just excited. I feel like I’m cutting my first record all over again. I think that’s what’s really good for me … just the excitement of doing things like this and doing them different. Having this new company is a real breath of fresh air."

"You just have more freedom [doing an album on your own], instead of someone saying, ‘This is when you’re record’s coming out … this is your single,'" he continues. "That’s just kind of the way it works, and that’s the way it has to work because [on major labels], there’s 30 other artists. Everybody decides when your album comes out, and if your song’s a hit, that’s great, but if it’s not a hit yet -- if it’s sitting in the 20s or 30s -- and you put your record out, it kind of takes the wind out of the sails of the project. I like this way of doing it."

Vassar is looking at the possibility of having the new music available by the end of the year or beginning of next year, depending on the amount of time it takes to complete. In the meantime, the singer-songwriter is also putting some finishing touches on his first Christmas album, which he plans to release in November.

"So I may have three records out in the next six months, which is crazy!" Vassar says, laughing. "I do know I’ll have the Christmas record done [this year]. I’ve always wanted to do one. We’re in the middle of cutting all that right now. There’s going to be several originals on it, which is cool. I’ve written a couple of Christmas things. I really like them. It’s been a lot of fun."

Vassar is also in the process of putting together a 17 or 20 date Christmas tour at the end of the year to promote the album and celebrate his favorite time of year. To keep up on the latest with Vassar's musical projects and tour dates, visit his website here.
