With their short dresses and big hair, Miranda Lambert and her Pistol Annies took the stage at the 2012 CMT Music Awards tonight (June 6) to perform the sassy, honky tonk-style jam 'Takin' Pills.'

Lambert strummed her pink acoustic guitar and was positioned to the left of her bandmates Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley, as opposed to in the center of the stage. One can't help but wonder if that was intentional, to show that all three of the ladies in the Annies have equal footing and that it isn't just Lambert's "other" project, despite the fact that she gets the lioness' share of the attention, being a country superstar and all.

The ladies certainly brought pretty to the awards show -- but they also infused it with spunk. With lyrics about living on truck stop burgers and fries and drinkin', smokin' and takin' pills, the trio is not sugar and spice and everything nice, despite wearing super sexy, ultra short, glittery silver and gold mini-dresses. They're a refreshing study in contrasts.

On the outside, the Annies were adorable and fashionable. But musically? They were diamonds in the rough, the kinda girls you want to shoot guns with and then try to kiss.
