Rock music is far more associated with protest songs than country music is, but that doesn't mean there aren't some great protest songs in country music. We've gathered together the best protest songs in the genre from some top artists, including Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Garth Brooks.

Parton isn't one to mix music and politics, but she still managed to make a strong statement about feminism and workers' rights in one of her biggest hits. Nelson has never been afraid to state where he stands on social and political issues, so it's no surprise to see his name turn up on a list of the top country music protest songs.

Brooks is a uniter, not a divider, and he makes this list for a song that was ahead of its time on social issues, but in a way that was meant to bring people together, not call others out.

The Dixie Chicks and Mary Chapin Carpenter are two more who make the list for very different kinds of protests. Kacey Musgraves got censored by the CMA for her entry on the list of top protest songs, only to win Song of the Year with the same song the following year.

Even Brad Paisley made the list, despite the fact that he always keeps his politics to himself.
