Rascal Flatts' last album, Rewind, dropped in 2014 and featured cuts from talented songwriters like Ben Hayslip and Ashley Gorley. It also included a few cuts from pop music's Meghan Trainor before she was "All About That Bass"!

Trainor is credited with two songs on Rewind  — "I Like the Sound of That" and "DJ Tonight." During a stop at our ToC Nights studio, Rascal Flatts explained how, exactly, Trainor cross genres.

“She started here," Rascal Flatts explain. "She started out to be a songwriter here in Nashville and we were her first two cuts ever."

"DJ Tonight" is Rewind's third track and was co-written by Jesse Frasure and Shay Mooney (of Dan + Shay). The trio worked well together as a songwriting group. They're also responsible for "I Like the Sound of That." This all happened before Trainor's single made her an international success as an artist, so it wasn't her name in lights that drew attention, just her songwriting knowhow.

"She put that song out and kind of blew up into a big pop star," the Flatts share. "It’s really strange what’s happened to her.”

The trio weren't sure if Trainor would be coming to Nashville full-time, but she's sure to make beautiful music wherever she is. Meanwhile, Rascal Flatts are getting ready to head to Las Vegas for their second residency in Sin City.
