Ray Stevens is celebrating Christmas in his “Mary and Joseph and the Baby and Me” video, using fanciful imagery to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Written by country artist Jeff Bates and radio personality John Ritter, the song recounts the birth of Jesus from the perspective of the donkey who was present, using a fun, uptempo feel for a very different take on the story.

“When I first heard the song ‘Mary and Joseph and the Baby and Me,’ I knew I wanted to record it. I think it is really clever and well written,” Stevens says.

In fact, it became the title song of his new Christmas album, which the legendary country singer-songwriter and humorist is releasing on Wednesday (Nov. 15). The 10-track album features several Christmas classics, including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth,” “Frosty the Snowman” and “Granda Got Run Over by a Reindeer.”

Mary and Joseph and the Baby and Me is Stevens’ third holiday album.

“I hope everyone enjoys my new Christmas CD as much as I have enjoyed recording it,” he states. “There is a good mix of light-hearted songs about Rudolph and Frosty and Grandma and even a cat that needs new claws. One of the songs is simply titled ‘Merry Christmas,’ and it’s my wish for everyone to have one of those this year.”

Stevens is premiering the video for “Mary and Joseph and the Baby and Me” exclusively via Taste of Country. Take a look at the clip above, and visit his official website for more information or to order a copy of the album.

Stevens will perform the song live at the upcoming Christmas 4 Kids concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Tickets for the Nov. 21 show are on sale at
