Reba McEntire is ready to suit up in her sheriff’s uniform for her new ABC drama series, Red Blooded.

In an interview with CMT’s Cody Alan, McEntire reveals that the pilot has already been filmed. The recognizable redhead was recently photographed filming scenes for the show, which has been described as a “Southern gothic soap opera,” in Georgia.

“I’m a dark character. I’ve got a lot of flaws and demons, and I’m having a lot of problems in my personal life,” she reveals of her character. “My town is being disrupted and I’m having to deal with it all. I’m under a lot of stress.”

The show finds McEntire starring as Sheriff Ruby Adair in a small town in Kentucky, which is thrown for a loop after a suspected terrorism attack during the town’s Fourth of July parade. Red Blooded is written and executive produced by Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry.

McEntire reveals to Taste of Country Nights that memorizing lines can sometimes be a challenge. “It is hard. Thank goodness they have a lot of characters in this script,” she says. “What I do is repetition and try to make it as conversational as it can be and practice a lot.”

But she is no stranger to the small screen, having starred in two sitcoms, Reba and Malibu Country, the latter of which marked the singer’s last major television role before Red Blooded. Malibu Country was canceled in 2013.

In addition to a new show, McEntire is celebrating the success of her latest album, Sing it Now: Songs of Faith & Hope, which topped both the Christian and country charts in early 2017 and includes the current single, “Back to God.”
