Reba McEntire vs Carrie Underwood: Country’s Top Vocalist of 2016?
During Round 2 of this fan-voted competition to decide country’s top vocalist of 2016, no singer had more votes than Carrie Underwood. She’ll need just as many during this semi-final pairing against Reba McEntire.
Sixteen singers were chosen from the day’s most active country vocalists, and fans were asked to vote for each, round-by-round, until only one vocalist remained. The finals will pair the top male against the top female, meaning Underwood or McEntire will take on Trace Adkins or Blake Shelton during next week’s finals.
That’s looking too far ahead, however. First one of these talented singers needs to win. Underwood fans helped the singer take over 55 percent of the vote in a heavily contested battle against Martina McBride. It was back and forth until the end, and the differential was one of the closest of the competition thus far.
Conversely, McEntire had an easy time dispatching of Cassadee Pope. With 75 percent of the vote, the country legend moved ahead to the finals. This may be the finals matchup many predicted when the competition began. While both are very active today, the pairing does represent a new vs. old school contrast.
Vote up to once every hour until the poll closes at 11:59PM ET on March 27, 2016. The winner will move on to the Top Country Vocalist finals, which end on April 3. The overall winner will be announced on April 4. Taste of Country’s Top Vocalist competition is the only fan-voted contest to choose the best singers in country music today.
