Controversy surrounded the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, as it seems to at every Olympics. U.S. official were accused of bribery, while Russian and South Korean teams threatened to boycott the closing ceremonies because of what they felt was unfair judging. In retrospect, Willie Nelson's performance was somewhat ironic.

The singer performed 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' near the end of the closing ceremony. He wasn't the only country star to play that day, however. Martina McBride sang her hit 'Blessed' and 'Over the Rainbow' during a set at the Olympic Park. In the end, it ended up being a wonderfully successful event and two-week-long experience.
