Rory Feek Is Bringing Joey’s Parents to the 2016 CMA Awards
Rory Feek is bringing his late wife's parents to the 2016 CMA Awards on Wednesday night. The Joey + Rory singer says he's not sure what he'll say if they win Vocal Duo of the Year, but he knows who his wife would have thanked first.
"God," he tells Taste of Country. "No doubt. Wouldn't even hesitate."
Joey Feek died in March after a long battle with cancer, which makes these accolades a little bittersweet for Rory Feek. Of course, they're appreciated, but he says he and his wife were never really comfortable with awards and official recognition from the industry. It's not why they made music.
Earlier Rory told Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex how he reacted when he learned he'd scored the CMA nomination: "Really?" he recalls. "That's it, 'Really?' It's a blessing, especially now to have my wife's voice and our music be lifted up the way that it is, it's a blessing."
In addition to the CMA nod, Joey + Rory have earned wins at the Inspirational Country Music Awards and Dove Awards. Rory Feek continues to blog at This Life I Live, and he's working on turning his story into a book. A movie called To Joey With Love about his final weeks and months with his wife will be released on DVD in the winter.
The couple have a 2-year-old daughter named Indiana together, and Rory has two daughters from a previous marriage.
