No. 67: Sammi Smith, ‘Help Me Make It Through the Night’ – Top 100 Country Love Songs

Help Me Make It Through the Night
Setco

Sammi Smith’s version of a great Kris Kristofferson song made the Top 100 Country Songs list, and it was a no-brainer for a list of top country love songs, too. Her yearning vocals beg a lover to stay. Smith is in need of some companionship, and every man, woman and child knows it.

Yesterday is dead and gone / And tomorrow’s out of sight / And it’s sad to be alone / Help me make it through the night,” Smith sings on this platinum chart-topper from 1970. A few others would cover ‘Help Me Make It Through the Night,’ but her version is best according to country fans. It would be Smith’s career song.
