Scotty McCreery turns 22 on Friday (Oct. 9) and in lieu of presents, he is asking for fans to donate money to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Sharon Eaves.

On Sept. 25, Eaves — McCreery's fan club president — passed away suddenly, and the singer is requesting donations to the cause, which was dear to Eaves' heart.

“I have many blessings in my life and I don’t need ‘things’ to celebrate my birthday,” McCreery explains in a press release. “But I miss my friend Sharon, who would have had a birthday just yesterday if she was still with us. I’d love to see my fans honor her and continue her great work with St. Jude.”

Eaves was a music industry veteran and member of St. Jude’s Music Industry Advisory Council. She created the Southern Belles team to participate in the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer in Nashville on Sept. 26 in McCreery’s honor, but died before she could participate in the event. By asking for donations, it is McCreery's way to continue to show support for Eaves and her cause.

McCreery's latest single is "Southern Belle." The singer will host a Twitter party on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 10:09PM ET for 22 minutes, where he will talk with fans in celebration of his 22nd birthday.
