Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina remain on their post-‘American Idol‘ tour, and the adorable duo made a pit stop at the ‘Today’ show in New York City this morning to perform Randy Travis‘ ballad ‘I Told You So.’ Before the terrific twosome sang, they were asked what keeps them so grounded, especially since ‘Idol’ moves at such a fast clip and they are young and impressionable.

“It’s our faith and God. We are the same people we were before this competition and we’ll always be the same. We’re small town people,” Alaina said in response to that big question.

The pair sat on stools as they worked their way through ‘I Told You So,’ and we’d be lying if we didn’t say that they look at each other lovingly while they performed. We’re really not trying to fuel those pesky dating rumors that have been following these two around, but we totally get why everyone thinks these small-town, country kids belong together.

Vocally, they complement each other, as if the song was written expressly for them to sing it together. Alaina shined on the song, with McCreery’s low tone serving as the wind beneath her wings.
