In what is largely considered an upset, country crooner Scotty McCreery advanced to the Final 3 on tonight's 'American Idol,' beating out fan and judge favorite James Durbin, who failed to turn in a subpar performance in his time on the show. It was down to the wire and McCreery and Durbin stood shoulder to shoulder, knowing that one of them would be going home.

In a testament to McCreery's grace and class, he looked somewhat disappointed that he was staying and his friend Durbin was leaving. The duo even performed a gritty "rawk" version of the Keith Urban/Brad Paisley hit 'Start a Band' at the beginning of the show, but alas, there was only room for three at this table. McCreery will now face off against the two remaining ladies, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart.

McCreery has shown us his many strengths and the many layers of his talent throughout these past four months. This competition is his to win, and it's realistic that he could follow in the footsteps of someone like Carrie Underwood and prove to America that the country genre can produce serious hitmakers and bonafide superstars in the pop world.

The remaining trio will sing three songs each next week. Let's hope McCreery gathers the advice of mentor Lady Gaga -- and of the judges -- and comes out swinging. Watch out, Haley and Lauren! Scotty McCreery is in it to win it!
