Fast-rising star Scotty McCreery delivered a down-home version of the Christmas classic 'Winter Wonderland' on Thursday night's (Dec. 20) 'CMA Country Christmas,' hosted by Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles.

The 19-year-old singer, who recently released his first Christmas album, delivered an appropriately low-key version of the oft-recorded tune in a countrified arrangement that suited his lower register very well. And while it would be virtually impossible to bring anything all that new to a song that's been performed and recorded as many times as 'Winter Wonderland' has, McCreery's rendition had a certain rough-hewn charm.

Maybe that's attributable to his background in caroling. "I’ve done it with my church a couple of times when I was younger," the 'American Idol' winner told Taste of Country in October. "I haven’t done it in years. But we’d go as a youth group, we’d go caroling around neighborhoods close to the church, for sure. Definitely."
