Sheryl Crow is undoubtedly best known for her pop and rock hits like 'All I Wanna Do,' 'If It Makes You Happy' and 'My Favorite Mistake,' but the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has recently finished up recording her first country album, which she says is closer to true country music than much of what's being marketed as country these days.

"It’s been really fun to make. I made it at home in my barn," Crow tells Country Weekly. The seven-year Nashville resident says what she likes about country music is that it is the most song-based genre. "I think it’s the best format if you like songs as a forum. Songs that are melodic and lyric-driven. That’s what I’ve always loved. There isn’t a home for that outside of country consistently."

Crow drafted favorite country star Brad Paisley to help her out with the album, which is slated for release in the fall of 2013 via Warner Music Nashville. The first single is scheduled to drop in March. Although she could be perceived as a pop interloper crossing over into country, the musician says she's more afraid her album could be too traditional for today's radio climate.

"My record is probably more country than a lot of country that is getting played [on the radio]," Crows insists, "so I hope I get played."
